Description

Features

With the advent of the disc braking system in automobiles arose the noise phenomenon known as the squeal noise. This high-pitched sound is a result of the friction between the brake pad lining as it meets the metal surface of the wheel disk when the brake is applied.

By attaching what is known as a shim on the opposite side of the lining of the brake pad, much of the squeal noise is absorbed or suppressed. Because of the emphasis on the quietness of a car in the current automotive market, the shim has become an essential part of the brake system.

Most shims are made of a base metal, which is coated by a thin layer of rubber. This material is either clipped on to the back plate or bonded by an adhesive. Many different variations of material and design are available in the search to combat squeal noise.

Gasket

Wolverine Gasket currently manufactures 5 different types of materials to be used as gaskets. They include Steel-N, Alum-N, Foamet, Vulkol, and Lamiseal. Countless variations of grades and thicknesses for each material are possible.

Wolverine Korea carries a significant inventory of many of these materials, both for production and wholesale. Wolverine Korea also carries samples of almost all products made by Wolverine Gasket

Wolverine Material Descriptions

  • Steel-N
Steel-N is a rubber coated metal product that uses steel as a carrier for a conformable rubber material. The coating is a proprietary nitrile rubber-based material with enhancements through fillers and other resins to meet the demands of a variety of sealing environments, load conditions, and surface finishes. The coating is heat resistant up to 150° C. For coatings 0.001 inch or less, the heat resistance can be as high as 175° C. These temperatures apply to both the clamped and non-clamped states.

The base steel, which is typically a low carbon rolled steel product, is available in a variety of temper ranges and thicknesses for different applications. Additionally, rubber coated stainless steel is provided for those applications that require greater strength and corrosion resistance.
  • Alum-N
Alum-N is a rubber coated metal product that uses aluminum as a carrier for a conformable rubber based coating. The coating is a proprietary nitirile rubber based material with enhancements through fillers and other resins to meet the demands of a variety of sealing environments, load conditions, and surface finishes. The coating is heat resistant up to 150° C. For coatings 0.001 inch or less, the heat resistance can be high as 175° C. These temperatures apply to both the clamped and non-clamped states. The aluminum carrier is a full hard SAE 5052 H-38 grade and is available in a variety of thicknesses
  • Foamet
Foamet is a nitrile foam rubber coated product on a steel or aluminum carrier that has an expansion agent included in the rubber. Expansion of the rubber occurs during the curing phase of the rubber coating operation. The coating is heat resistant up to 150° C. This temperature applies to both the clamped and non-clamped states.
  • Vulkol
Vulkol is a rubber coated paper material. The paper is a high-density cellulose product (vulcanized fiber) and the rubber is a proprietary nitrile blended material. The coating is heat resistant up to 150° C. This temperature applies to both the clamped and non-clamped states.
  • Lamiseal
Lamiseal is a conformable paper based product that is mechanically clinched on both sides of a perforated steel core. The perforations are made to penetrate the paper material and then are folded back inside of the paper material by a calendering operation. The paper contains a small amount of organic binder (rubber) which is used to hold the inorganic materials together during the manufacturing phase of the material. Lamiseal will function in temperatures up to 870° C.
